In these challenging times, we seek a way around our anxiety and depression through many means, including therapy and coaching, which often meet our need. But some kind of pain often goes on deeper within, at our core. That experience is spiritual in nature, a spiritual pain. Our spiritual journeys happen at a level beyond our intellect and emotions. It is beyond words. It is transcendent. If we can find peace there, then we usually find peace in the other areas of our lives. We want partners who understand this phenomenon and can speak to it. This is what I have done in my pastoral counseling and hospice chaplain work. People have come to me with problems that could not be easily described. Their experience often involve literally or existentially dying by a loved one or themselves which moved them to find comfort from someone who understood and could articulate language that made sense. I have specialized in my training and work to know how to come alongside and talk about it in ways that are non-threatening, understandable, and healing. If these conversations include discussions about one's faith journey or more generally, their spiritual journey, or not, I am comfortable and competent in those moments.
I "get it" because I have lived it, as a senior pastor and then going through 10 years of terminal cancer before my cure 15 years ago. Since then, I have worked as a hospice chaplain for 13 years where the ultimate issues of dying are talked about daily.
Whether you are struggling with issues of meaning and purpose, anxiety and depression, relationship problems, or grief and loss, I can help you with the pain in your spirit to bring healing and peace.
